Remapping involves the optimisation of the manufacturer’s default engine software which is stored on the car’s ECU (or Engine Control Unit). The reason this is possible is those vehicle manufacturer’s de-tune their engines from the factory. This is due to them selling vehicles all over the world which have to take into account different climates, laws & restrictions and varying quality of fuels.
